Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
