Brian Eno Urges Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.

A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.

A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”

Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”

Track's Background and Featured Artists

The song was recorded in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.

The impressive roster of artists appearing on Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.

Production and Release

Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of music creators. The single features a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.

The team running the project have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.

“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue as much as possible. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”

The context in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.

“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”

The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
