Fans Call for Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account includes clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, winning several for best costume and artistic direction.
