Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
