Paceman Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems when he left the field during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

The England team stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour beginning on 4 January begins this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
