Performer Denies Anti-Vax Position Following Lending His Voice To Contentious Covid Documentary
The "Taken" star has given his vocal talents to a feature-length documentary that casts doubt on the safety of vaccinations and praises former government figure Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Documentary's Contentious Foundation
Called "Plague of Corruption," the film is inspired by a popular book co-authored by a disgraced researcher, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for claims that the illness was caused by a faulty batch of the flu vaccine.
Her collaborator, a producer, has also written books with controversial media personality a known commentator. He recently posted hailing Neeson's role in the project.
A Firm Statement
A spokesperson for the actor have issued a statement strongly denying suggestions that he holds anti-vax views.
"We all understand that misconduct can exist within the medical sector, but that cannot be equated to being against vaccines," the comment states. "Neeson never has been, and is not, anti-vaccination. His long work with Unicef highlights his long-held support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
It continued that the actor had no hand in the documentary's messaging and that questions about its assertions are best addressed to the creators.
Central Assertions In the Film
As presented, the voiceover read by Neeson features several strong claims:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have demanded "unconditional submission" to public institutions.
- It argues that "research has become dangerously politicised."
- Kennedy is interviewed saying, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they simply are not safely tested."
- The film further attacks stay-at-home orders, claiming they caused severe distress that resulted in thousands of lives.
- Concerning the immunizations, it cites a perspective that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Past Background and Recent Disputes
It includes a past television report about HIV drug testing on children, which was later the focus of a correction by the network for editorial breaches.
Last month, Kennedy directed the national health agency to alter its long-held position that there is no causal relationship between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This supposed link is repeated in the film, even with a recent study from the World Health Organisation reiterating no such link has been found.
A Previous Record of Advocacy
Differing from the film's message, Neeson has in the past expressed clear advocacy for vaccines in his capacity as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Two years ago, he called vaccines as "a remarkable achievement," noting that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has forgotten how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in our history."
The documentary concludes with Neeson's script proclaiming, "This isn't the finish of our story. This is the beginning of a new chapter."
