American actor Pat Finn, who featured in beloved television series such as Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away at the age of 60.

The comedic improv actor passed away at his residence in Los Angeles, California recently after undergoing cancer treatment from 2022 onward, according to media reports.

"He never met a stranger - just potential friends he had yet to meet," his loved ones shared in a announcement.

They continued that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with zest and passion".

A Notable TV Career

His debut TV appearance was on the George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he played the lead character's sibling.

He also had a repeating character on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He played the part of Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, portraying a party host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on numerous well-known programs, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • "Friends"
  • "That '70s Show"
  • House, M.D.

His most famous role for portraying the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight series from 2011 to 2018.

His cinematic roles are "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Outside of his acting parts, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was a member of a six-member improv team named Beer Shark Mice.

"Pat taught, supported, and inspired many learners during his career and it would be difficult to find a person who has an unkind word to say about him," his loved ones expressed.

Paying homage, colleague and actor Richard Kind noted there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Always positive, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A wonderful father and man," he shared online.

Finn is survived by his partner Donna, his children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
