The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a room in the building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in 2025, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
