This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
